CISD extends three-day weekend on October 30 to allow time and planning for teachers

Students and staff can recharge at the end of this month as Crandall ISD announced a change to its district calendar. A four-day weekend is on the books with Friday, Oct. 30, and Monday, Nov. 2, both serving as student holidays.

CISD’s original district calendar scheduled a three-day weekend during that same time, with Nov. 2 serving as a student holiday and staff training day on campus. But after visiting with teachers and students, CISD Superintendent Dr. Wendy Eldredge said there was one recurring theme—time.

“We have made it a point talk with our teachers more than ever this semester, given all that they are experiencing and working through with teaching and learning,” Eldredge said. “A theme that keeps popping up is ‘time.’ Our teachers need time to refresh, recharge and rejuvenate. And many of our students are saying the same thing.

“This gives us the chance to care for all our people during a year with so many new challenges that keep arising.”

Eldredge also said the extra student holiday can provide more time to clean buildings—not just for COVID, but also for the approaching flu season—and set schedules as the new six-week grading period begins.
